Are you a backpacker enthusiast? Do you love hiking?

If you do, you’d definitely not be able to ignore such a heavenly creation like Chalkidiki! Having in mind its natural beauties and landscapes, we chose 5 of the best routes that will leave you some really beautiful and unforgettable memories of this ideal backpacking - hiking destination.

So… Let the journey begin!

Elia Beach - Agios Pavlos

It is a fairly simple and relatively easy route without any major difficulties. It is a nice walk among woodlands and various forest paths that will offer you wonderful views of the sea side and eventually lead you into an olive field!

As the route continues we will reach St Paul’s temple and its beautiful water spring. The magnificent plateau is covered with huge rocks and pine trees while it is full of flowers and several rare plants. During the spring the entire landscape becomes even more impressive and full of colors, a true stimulation for the senses...

Another distinct characteristic that you will definitely remember is the sweet scents of honey that can be felt throughout the forest! As the trail becomes sandy it will lead us to a huge rock, named Petros.

It shares the same name with another huge rock that can be seen while it stands out of the trees in the top.

This is the highest spot of the mountain line. When you’ll reach it, you’ll have the chance to relax, take your time and enjoy the outstanding view of the entire peninsula!

  Duration: 4 – 5 hours.

Neos Marmaras – Parthenonas

A much longer trail that begins from the old village of Parthenonas (Parthenon) located around 1,5 km away from Neos Marmaras. It can be adjusted in many different ways in order to fit the abilities and physical condition of any backpacker!

If you wish something more challenging you can follow a very demanding route that will lead you into an old water mil, olive fields and woodlands while through the forest you’ll be able to see the town. If you wish an easier, less painful approach you can follow several forest trails that will take more time, or a shorter -yet rougher- trail in which you’ll have to follow the river on its way through the mountain.

  Duration: 4 – 5 hours.

Nikiti – Agios Nikolaos – Nikiti

This route follows a circular course mostly following forest paths and woodlands that will lead to the hill behind Nikiti and give you the chance to visit the village of Agios Nikolaos. The beginning of the trail is set next to the school of Nikiti.

Following the trail course you’ll meet some beautiful shelters and olive fields, bee hives and woodlands while the small church will be the perfect place for the long awaited break!

  Duration: 4 – 5 hours.

Porto Karras – Ampelones – Porto Karras

Another enchanting trail that will take you through the vineyards over Neos Marmaras and offer you some surprisingly impressive views of the crystal clear sea! On your way back to the shore the path will drive you through the forests while passing many beautiful beaches and small gulfs that can be found all along the route!

  Duration: 4 – 5 hours.

Area around Sykia – Sykia Area

Another worth walking interesting trail that features wonderful view is the one around Sykia. It goes around the ridge and over the city while heading north. The beauty of the village and the surrounding area definitely deserves your attention and effort.

The trail takes us through older paths, goat paths and some streets that were used for the movement of agricultural machinery. Certain parts of the paths included are kind of steep but they all have safe rocky ascents and descents.

  Duration: 4 – 5 hours.
