The race is set to start from the central square of the city of Pella, in front of the statue that depicts Alexander the Great while riding on his horse, hardly one km away from the homonymous archaeological site. After the first few hundred meters of downhill road, the athletes get onto the Thessaloniki-Edessa highway passing Chalkidona, river Axios, the villages of Gefyra, Agios Athanasios, Nea Agchialos, Gallikos river, Ionia (Diavata), the Greek Petroleum Company and the Municipalities of Eleftheriou-Kordelio and Menemeni.
After a lot of effort they reach the city center after having passed through Monastiriou Street, Dimokratia Square (Vardari), Dodekanisou Street, Nikis Avenue, to their final destination near the White Tower, and pass the finish line in front of the statue of Alexander the Great.
One of the biggest clubs in Greece, the team of Giannitsa (also known as O.M.G.) with over 130 runners is participating and co-organizing the Marathon of Thessaloniki.
In addition to the main race, several events will be held during the day, including smaller races of five and ten kiliometres.
